Notes to support the Completion of the Grant Application form
  1. Applicants can be individuals or organisations

  2. These are the Trust’s overall objectives. Your application should be in support of at least one of them. You can more than one objective.

  3. The Trust typically supports the type of projects listed here. If your project does not fall into one of these categories it does not mean that it definitely won’t get funded. It is however, less likely and it may be worth contacting the Trust to enquire whether it is worth submitting an application. Again you can tick more than one category if you think it relevant

  4. In this section you should describe your project. We want to know not only what you want to do but how you plan to do it. For example if you are planning to train volunteers we want to know how they will be selected as well as the details of the training you are planning. Similarly if you are planning an event how will participants be identified and/or the event be publicised. Projects often fail to get funded because they provide insufficient or poor detail in relation to this question.

  5. What is the total budget of the overall project? We ask this because sometimes applicants are asking Feminist Review Trust to fund a small part of a larger project. The Trustees like to know where this is the case.

  6. How much money are you asking the Trust for? The Trust can award grants of up to £10,000 but in practice it tends to offer smaller awards as it receives so many applications.

  7. Have you also applied to other bodies for funding for your project? Have you been offered part-time funding by other bodies?

  8. We want to know how important the Trust funds will be for your project?  Can it continue/take place without Trust funding?

  9. Please provide a detailed breakdown of the budget of your project. The Trustees like to know how you plan to use their funds and that you have prepared a full and realistic budget for your project. We often offer partial support for projects so it is helpful to know if there are different discrete elements of your project.

  10. We like to support projects which have a longer-term impact. Most applications do not consider this very carefully or very fully. Since our funds are so limited we like to maximise the impact of our expenditure. We recognise that longer term impact obviously looks very different for a one off event, a campaign and a training project but we do expect applicants to consider it. Many applicants struggle with this section as they do not think about the lasting impact of their project. So, for example, if you are applying for funding for a workshop or a training event what will the longer term consequences be? How many people will have been trained. What will they they then be enabled to do? Or if you are applying for funds to make an intervention what will the longer term consequences be?

  11. This section is for you to include any additional information you think may be helpful for the Trustees. You do not have to complete this section.

  12. We do not necessarily take up the referees of all applicants. Please suggest independent referees. Please do not use referees from your organisation in the case of organisations applying for funding. Please check that the referees you nominate are willing to provide references and please check that you have provided the correct email address. We do not have the resources to follow up inaccurate information

  13. Organisations who apply should include information about their organisation such as an annual report. If you can include relevant sections of your organisation’s Annual Report in the Application for we would appreciate it. Individual applicants should submit their cv(s). Include them in the main body of the application form. Do not append cv’s.

  14. The trust only accepts electronic applications.
